For my Senior Project, reTHREADS, my objective was to tackle a major environmental issue in the outdoor clothing gear and apparel industry through design. My goal was to harness the power of visual communication to raise awareness, prompt conversations, and incite positive change. Embracing sustainability and inclusivity, I aspired to develop solutions that not only address this specific problem but also contribute to a more eco-friendly and zero-waste world. I believe that design is a great motive for progress, and my goal for reTHREADS was to utilize this potential to make a tangible difference in people's lives and the world around us.
Many times, people are interested in pursuing outdoor activities, but are deterred because of the steep prices and/or unethical clothing practices. The outdoor gear industry is the fourth largest polluter of air and water on earth, therefore the objective of reTHREADS is to decrease the amount of clothing and material waste and increase the amount of people interested in sustainable outdoor gear.
reTHREADS is an affordable and sustainable outdoor equipment & apparel brand that aims to educate and inform consumers about sustainability in outdoor outerwear, and how it can be repurposed to minimize environmental impact. The brand also shows consumers that not all outdoor apparel and equipment needs to be so expensive that it’s unaffordable to participate in outdoor activities. The main purpose of reTHREADS is to take old or ruined products and repurpose them to create new products and give new life to outdoor gear.
reTHREADS was founded on the belief that we can help reduce negative environmental impact resulting from throwing away goods.
My project consists of various design elements for my brand reTHREADS, including clothing tags, informational posters, patches, stickers, and a website.
